Just finished these word banners for the Havanese Rescue, Inc. yearly fundraiser. Two quilts are up for prize-drawing this year. Mom asked if I could somehow make letters out of the quilt block images. Having played around with Photoshop’s masking in the past couple of years, this wasn’t too hard to do. =) Easier than I expected, actually.

Returned books to library, but purchased (luckily at Half Price Books!) two:

Hardwear: Jewelry From a Toolbox by Hannah Rogge; 1-58469-480-1

The Art of Resin Jewelry by Sherri Haab; (ISBN-13) 978-0-8230-0344-0

These titles are great. Easy to follow instructions, good details, but simple to read and understand for any beginner. (I’m very new and have yet to actually get to doing the resin jewelry.) If you’re dedicated to the projects, spend the money.

Chigusa made one for me! This one looks more complicated than she did… Yeah, this is a different version. Wonder if I can figure this one out…? I love Origami.

New photos on Flickr!

Items for potential pieces. Not sure how to use the Lego lightsabers yet.

Lots of jewelry! Below is an image of my newest choker necklace. <3

Close-up images of all of my magnets.

And finally pictures of my various creations of matchboxes.

Mimicking popular trends

So my jewelry ideas are hardly original, but few things are perfectly original. Now Urban Outfitters is a trendy, expensive store that I tend to like but… the prices suck. I figure why not look at their jewelry and do some imitating? So the following links are for items I’m thinking about trying out in some form.

Linked Chain Drop (earrings)
Wood Disk Necklace
Metal Circles (necklace)
Glass Cluster Flower (earrings)
UO Dual Chain (necklace)
UO Loop (necklace)
Secret Garden (necklace)
Dreamers (necklace)
Message in a bottle (necklace)
Asymmetrical Free Bird (necklace)
Peace (Y-neck necklace)
Leather Tassle Thin Chain (earrings)
Leather & Wide Chain (earrings)
Suede Braid (bracelet)
UO Dual Chain (necklace)
Wood Heart (necklace)

“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, books, music, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality of non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Goddard said: “it’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to. ”

Odds&ends?

Request/shout-out: I’m working on a variety of crafts this summer, including jewelry with “found objects” and experimenting with resin casting. What am I asking for? Well, I’m curious if you’ve got little items lying around that you don’t want (or maybe you want modified?) that I might be able to use. I’m thinking game pieces, barbie shoes, old keys, old music tapes, etc.

Please contact me through my gmail address of claritycw

Thanks!
